Castle Teraknian is an ancient fortress, located on a rocky island overlooking the city of Sasserine.
It is often said, "Castle Teraknian lies not in any of the seven districts of Sasserine, and yet belongs to all of them."
This ancient fortress was built by Arch-Duke Viktor Teraknian, and became the seat of his family's power for 570 years, until Orren the Cruel was overthrown 125 years ago.
The castle was then taken over by the Sky-Lords of Kendar, and continued to be used by the Kendari until 20 years ago, when Governor Diego Montravon was overthrown in the Uprising of 1227/6.
The castle has been abandoned for the last twenty years, and has not been re-claimed.
Under the Castle
Below the castle are many dungeons and underground passages. The most well-known of these underground passages are the "Noble Vaults," which are the only portions of the castle dungeons still known to be in use.
The Vaults have always been a secure place for Sasserine’s nobility to safely store their valuables.
Also below the castle are the "Ducal Crypts;" the sacred burial chambers for former members of House Teraknian. Unlike the Noble Vaults, this area has been sealed off for a long time.
