Akros
CITY-55.jpg

(population: 27,000) Located on the northern coast of Renthara Isle, Akros is the second largest city in the kingdom of Rennsfar.

This ancient city was originally founded by the Elder-Elves, who called it "Alarë." For many centuries, the city was an integral part of elven realm of Wyntharë.

That all ended in the year 884/3, during the Great Rift, when the city was destroyed in a catastrophic earthquake, and the elves were forced to abandon the ruins.

Eventually, the city was rebuilt by Catalan settlers who had colonized the Isle of Renthara. Now under their control, the Catalans re-named the city "Akros," and it grew immensely in both size and importance.

Today, Akros is a major seaport on the Sea of Ralas. In its sprawling harbor, hundreds of tiny fishing boats unload their daily catches, while dozens of large merchant ships load olive oil, wine, and lumber destined for many far-away ports. Every day, the city harbor is crowded with merchant vessels from far-away cities such as Eldarand, Natharos, Pike's Ferry, Rastios, Tymor, and Wyn Falas.

This city's wealth has made it home to many powerful and influential families. Akros is currently ruled by Duchess Isenia Reggio.

The Catacombs of Alarë

The present-day city of Akros is built upon the ruins of an ancient elven city called "Alarë."

One lasting legacy of this heritage is a vast network of catacombs which still exist, deep below the city streets.

Many ages ago, the elves of Alarë constructed these underground passages to serve as tombs, and some say, to hide magical treasure.

Long ago, the Veiled Society sealed of most of the known entrances to the catacombs to prevent grave-robbing.

However, rumors persist of elves and other strange folk still dwelling down in the dark passages below the city streets, and, using the few remaining hidden entrances, expeditions are often secretly undertaken to explore the ancient elven dungeons.
