Ashfall; also called "the Dark Century," was a period of 100 years of black rain and darkness that covered most of eastern Corwyn, poisoning the lands forever. Ashfall was the result of horrific magical energies expended in the destruction of Saravôsh.
One of the unexpected results of Ashfall was the Taint. This irreversible magical poisoning caused the appearance of the Dark-Elves to be altered forever; their skin turned black, their hair bleached white, and they could no longer tolerate sunlight.
Soon after, the Dark-Elves began to migrate underground, mostly through the huge Grôn Chasm. Soon after, the Dark-Elves began to migrate underground, mostly through the newly created Chasm.
Even today, all living beings dwelling in the Darklands suffer from the Taint; including the Dark-Elves, the Gauth, and to a lesser extent, the Adari.
