Athos-Avarel

Athos-Avarel; which in old Markesh means ‘passage to the heights,' is a large, ancient fortress located at the northern foothills of the goblin-infested Crumbling Mountains.
The castle was built in the Fifth Age by the Ravinian Empire to protect the important junction of two roads;
- the Academë Road; which runs east and west between the cities of Elsareth and Cymereth
- the Axeway; which runs north and south between the cities of Darôk and Rilsavar.
The fortress has long been a popular haven for merchant caravans and weary travelers on their various journeys between the nations of Derianor, Elyria,Erindar, and Orrek.
Today, Athos-Avarel has a large garrison, made up of both Erindari soldiers, as well as dwarvish mercenaries from Orrek.
These mixed human and dwarvish troops continue the centuries-old tradition of protecting travelers in this inhospitable region.
