Athrenar Sanborn was one of the "Seven Champions" who defeated Alokkair in the War of the Elanthir. He then went on to found Ralas; the first Ralani Kingdom on Corwyn.
King Athrenar was the first holder of Darkslayer; one of the seven Elanthir swords, which was given to him by the Council of Sorcerë, as a reward for his courageous service in the War against Alokkair.
In the year 0031 of the Fourth Age, Athrenar founded the kingdom of Ralas, and became its first king. He ordered the gargantuan fortress of Iron Crown Keep built, as well as the famous Dragon Throne, which was installed in its great hall. Athrenar also ordered his famous watchtower built in the year 0044/4 to protect his people from the Corsairs of Tar Vielca.
Athrenar was a great explorer and sailor and his exploits at sea are legendary. Unfortunately, Athrenar's explorations led him into contact with the Corsairs of Tar Vielca and the two groups have fought for supremacy ever since. King Athrenar died in battle with the hated corsairs in the year 66/4. He was succeeded on the Dragon Throne by his son Alaron, who continued the Sanborn Dynasty.
One of the legends about Athrenar is that he had dragonsblood in his veins; as did all members of the House of Sanborn. This is the reason the royal seat of Ralas was designed by Athrenar to appear as if it were made from an actual metallic dragon; thus the "Dragon Throne."
Athrenar came from a Ralani ethnic group known as the Mazareen, and his family had dominated those tribes for well over 150 years before he established the Kingdom of Ralas.
