The Axeway is an ancient, important roadway running north and south between the dwarven cities of Darôk and Skarlahn Feyr.
The Axeway is very treacherous as it gets farther north, going narrowly around many mountains and precipices; so dangerous in fact, it is nick-named the ‘Road of Lost Souls,’ because so many hapless travelers and caravans have been lost using it. These losses were due not only to the harsh weather of the Grey Mountains, but also brigands, orcs, and other evil creatures.
The road was built by the dwarves in the early Third Age and is, today, still used by them. Today, the Axeway is completely paved with tan stones and is in excellent condition. It is maintained by dwarves of Orrek and Kharos-Thûngol, as well as men from Elyria.
