Background

Bagyar is the oldest son of the oldest son of the oldest son, going back many generations, and his family has been in Caldera since the beginning. Family lore has his family as some of the original builders of the city, with a deep spiritual link to the stone, the earth, and the ancient volcano beneath it. He is known among the Dwarves of Caldera as a minor sage and holy man of sorts, and despite his often overly plain-spoken and straightforward manner, is a respected member of the Dwarven community. This is due to his family and his faith, and to those who know him. To those who do not, his tattooed head and body, covered in ancient tribal symbols, are as bold and off-putting as his brusque and brutally honest first impression.

As a young man the gifts of his faith began to manifest, and his connection to nature, through his desire to study wildlife and imitate what he saw. His most engrossing fascination is with the tiger of the surrounding forests, and he has learned to manifest its claws and speed in himself when desired. He hopes to learn to transform himself into the whole creature before he begins study of another animal family.

Bagyar is typically a solitary person, keeping to his studies, and working only on occasion with family members as a stonemason. Sometimes he will be gifted in gratitude for sage advice offered, but those seeking his advice are only rarely in a position for such generosity. He is a soft touch for a hard luck case, often offering support or a willing ear to the poor or underclass, and his advice for free. He has taken a young gnome by the name of Bex under his wing to mentor and guide, a rebellious and mischievous young man without family, raised in the Lantern Street Orphanage, and turned out when of age. Despite the many differences between them, Bagyar has come to consider Bex family of a sort, and works behind the scenes wherever possible to keep the young gnome from the worst consequences of his follies.

Bagyar occasionally visits The Burning Tree to anonymously buy drinks for the working class folks who frequent the establishment. His usual haunt is The Merry Mermaid, where he often sits alone at the end of the bar, visiting with the proprietor and his childhood friend; Garth. He sometimes uses his modest wages to cover tabs, and fellowships with those who are down on their luck. He is known by most of the clergy of the town, and some of the members of the older families, though the former consider him and his "nature religion" something just shy of heresy, while the latter view him as odd and eccentric.
