The lowest ranking position of western nobility, below the ranks of duke, count, and viscount. Barons are usually in charge of large towns, small cities, or small rural areas, usually called a barony. In the West, barons are very important to the monarchy system because they provide both military forces in time of war, and much needed tax revenue. Baronies are the most common type of local government seen in western Corwyn, and eight to twelve of these will make up a single Duchy.
