Castenar Del Vecchio was the founder and first monarch of the eastern kingdom of Thûle.
Castenar was born a Prince of Eldara, and the youngest son of King Arathar IV. As was tradition, he was given the Eldaran title of "Prince of Eldara," and given ruler-ship over the royal colony of East Eldara.
Castenar was not satisfied with this position. In the year 1202/4, he rebelled against his own father and the Royal court in Eldarand. He declared independence, causing a bitter civil war to erupt.
The First Eldaran Civil War
In this bloody conflict, Castenar soon gained a reputation as both a brilliant military leader and a heartless tyrant.
During the war, Castenar’s forces captured the Eldaran city of Ordana, butchered most of its inhabitants, and then ordered it burned to the ground.
Soon after, Eldara offered terms and Castenar became the first ruler of a new independent kingdom he named: Thûle.
In the year 1209/4, after his victory over his father, Castenar made the city of Durendar his new capital, and assumed the Thûlian Obsidian Throne. Castenar continued to rule his new kingdom until 1225/4.
That year, he ordered his father poisoned out of fear that Eldara would try to reconquer its lost eastern territories on the Kratheri Peninsula. King Arathar IV died in his sleep from the poison, but Castenar was so overcome with grief and guilt, he committed suicide a few days later.
After his suicide, Castenar was succeeded by his 17-year old daughter; Brionna, who became the second monarch of the Eastern Del Vecchio Dynasty.
