Chromatic Dragons
Dragons-2.jpg

Chromatic dragons are a type of dragon distinguished typically by a solid, non-reflective coloring of their scales, hence the name.

These dragons are generally evil, greedy, and predatory, and usually worship Tiamat, whom they regard as their Queen. In the First Age, the Chromatic Dragons of Corwyn made War against the Elder-Elves who had sailed to Corwyn from the Unknown Lands, and would probably have destroyed them, if not for the intervention of the alliance of the Metallic Dragons. Even to this day, the greatest hatred of all Chromatic Dragons is reserved for the races of Metallic Dragons.

It is believed by the wisest of the Synfari scholars that all species of chromatic dragons evolved from the proto-dragon species of the infice-draco-genus. Although there were many chromatic dragon species, the following are the ones known commonly on Corwyn:

Black Dragons

Black dragons, or skull dragons, are the most vile-tempered and cruel of all chromatic dragons. They make their lairs in large caves or underground chambers next to swamps or murky ponds. A black dragon's diet consisted of fish, mollusks, aquatic critters, and some red meat from terrestrial animals. The breath weapon of Black Dragons is a spray of acid.

Blue Dragons

Blue dragons are orderly creatures and were unusual for chromatics in that they kept fairly well-ordered, hierarchical societies. They were more likely to be mocking and manipulative than outrightly cruel or murderous to "lesser" creatures, aided greatly by their natural talents for hallucination. They were infamous for tricking desert travelers into drinking sand or going miles out of their way to avoid nonexistent dust basins. The breath weapon of Blue Dragons was a bolt of lightning.

Brown Dragons

Brown dragons, also called great desert dragons or sand dragons, are unusual in that they were wingless . A brown dragon typically lairs in a large cave or underground chamber, deep under the desert sand. The breath weapon of Brown Dragons is a spray of acid.

Deep Dragons

Deep dragons, also called "Purple Dragons" are seldom seem in the surface, as they are inhabitants of the Underdark. They are stalkers, hunting their prey with cunning and patience. They often ally with Dark-Elves, and consider themselves rivals of the Aboleth and Mind Flayers. The breath weapon of Deep Dragons is a cone of negative energy.

Green Dragons

Green dragons revel in combat, and often attack for no apparent reason. They are highly territorial, and would often view any intrusion into their domain, voluntary or not, as a personal affront. They are extremely cunning and duplicitous foes, and loved double-crossing others. A traveler who stumbles into a green dragon's territory might be able to bribe the dragon for safe passage, but more often than not the dragon would pretend to agree and then attack the unsuspecting offender once his or her guard was down. The breath weapon of Green Dragons is a cone of green, poisonous gas.

Red Dragons

Red dragons are the most powerful of the chromatic dragons. Red dragons are covetous, evil creatures, interested only in their own well-being, vanity, and the extension of their treasure hoards. They are supremely confident of their own abilities and are prone to making snap decisions without any forethought. The breath weapon of Red Dragons is a cone of fire.

White Dragons

White dragons are the weakest and the most feral of the classic chromatic dragons, but they are by no means stupid or harmless. They are still powerful enough to overwhelm most humans and have exceptional long-term memories. Adult white dragons have several abilities well-suited to their arctic habitat: they can climb ice cliffs with ease, fly very high and fast, and are exceptional swimmers. They love to swim in cold water; the more frigid, the better. The breath weapon of White Dragons is a cone of ice or frost.
