Battle of Fessenden

Fessenden was the site of a horrific battle that took place in the year 623/5, between the Third Alliance of men, elves, and dwarves, and the forces of Sorimmar’s alliance.

During the decisive week-long battle, a small dwarvish army of 30,000 stopped Sorimmar’s army along the eastern shores of the Anglarand River and forced them on the defensive. But the armies of Morgoth were not completely defeated and for the next three years, both sides would remain in a stalemate.

The hero of this battle was the Dwarf-King Durlag Vraiken, whose dwarvish army fought almost to its last living warrior, holding out for seven days against an army ten times its size. Over 25,000 dwarves and nearly 100,000 orcs and eastern men were slain in this gigantic battle. This battle is considered the turning point in the War of the Cataclysm.
