The Hellstorm Flumes were legendary towers built by the Runelords of the ancient Iskari Empire. Built as weapons of war, each tower contained vast amounts of magical energy, powered by a Runewell.
The towers had the ability to harness this arcane energy and "fire" it almost like artillery at advancing enemy armies. Some sages have theorized the Flumes were actually living beings, carved into stone.
Long ago, the Hellstorm Flumes served as border outposts for the Empire, and were key Iskari strongholds in its wars against both Kalinor and Jandelay. Ironically, these same towers were later used by the seven Runelords against one another, as the Iskari Empire collapsed into civil war and infighting.
Some sages, such as Brodert of Sandpoint, now believe that the secrets of these towers were brought over to Corwyn from the Continent of Ikharos in the Late Third Age, and that several were built here. But that theory is widely discredited. As of today, none remain, only ruins as a testament to the vast magical powers of the Runelords.
