(population: 25,000) Located along the Lost Coast, Herronford is the seventh largest city in the kingdom of Iskandar.
The city of Herronford may be the smallest of the major Iskari seaports on Westvale Island, however, it remains a bustling and wealthy port-of-call.
Most city traffic comes via ship, but Herronford is also accessible on land via the Lost Coast Road which connects it to the neighboring cities of Tharnia and Wyn Falas.
Today, Duke Exley Arzadon rules both the city of Herronford and the Duchy of Vharia.
Local History
In ancient times, Herronford was an important city in the Cynaran kingdom of Urland. As the city grew, it became the seat of the Cynaran Thaindom of Vharia, and served as an important administrative division within the Kingdom of Urland.
At the end of the Forty-Years War, Ethelred; the last Cynaran Thain of Vharia, surrendered to the Iskari forces of King Ilnavel Cyrenäe. The Iskari disbanded the Thaindom and created the "Duchy of Vharia" in its place, and the House of Mandrake was chosen to rule.
The Iskari Civil War
In the year 1068/4, King Ilcanar Cyrenäe II of Iskandar was poisoned by Alokkair’s agents, leaving no rightful heir, and Lightbringer; the King's Elanthir sword was stolen from Erôn-Wyntharë.
At that time, the Duchy of Vharia was led by Lord Kalfus Mandrake, a powerful Cynaran noble who resented his Iskari overlords.
Fueled by Alokkair’s treachery, Lord Kalfus, along with the Dukes of Cynara and Rhoyden, rebelled against the Onyx Throne, sparking the bloody Iskari Civil War. For the next twenty years, a terrible conflict raged between the opposing factions before King Irenicus Blackburn finally crushed the rebellion was in the year 1087/4.
Fate of House Mandrake
By the war's end, Duke Kalfus Mandrake and two of his three sons were slain in battle, and King Irenicus ordered his last son to be executed, destroying House Mandrake forever. Irenicus then broke the estate into the four smaller baronies: "Barstow, "Lhorest," "Stormchapel," and "Vharia." All four were ruled by loyal, hand-picked Iskari Lords.
Today, the ancient fortress of Castle Mandrake still exists, atop a great hill overlooking the city, although for centuries it has been home to the powerful House of Arzadon.
