Old Tongue

Term for the ancient language of the elves when it was given to early men of the races of Iskari, Ryndar, and Thann.

The language is a distinct dialect of Silvanestri which was passed to the race of man by the elves, and is still spoken by a few humans. These folk are mainly sages, prophets, nobles, mages and sorcerers, as well as certain clerics and disciples of the human pantheon. This language is extremely rare on Corwyn, and is usually written rather than spoken. Most ancient tomes are written in this speech. But the use of this rare speech can set certain educated persons and nobles apart from everyday society. To be sure, the Old Tongue is not heard or spoken in brothels and taverns, but is commonly heard in temples, monasteries, and wizard’s guilds.
