One of the legendary Seven Cities of Brass, located furthest south along the Bronze Coast, on the eastern coast of the continent of Avokhar. Ona Miertay is a huge city, straddling both banks of the Ona River. The city's closest northern neighbor is Vhal Quaaros. The city was once part of the great Eloysian Empire, but is now an independent city-state.

Ona Miertay is the second-largest of the Seven City-states, and the city competes with its neighbors on the Bronze Coast for market share in trade. Ona Miertay has a larger number of Hakeen peoples than its other neighbors, largely because of its sea-trade. Also, many Rakshasa reside here, for they are revered by the Caliph of the city-state.The city-state has a powerful navy of 18 warships and standing army of 4,000 soldiers, but can call up as many as 15,000 in time of war. Ona Miertay largely derives its wealth from the benefit of having the largest whaling industry along the Bronze Coast. The city is sometimes called the "city of lamp oil."

HISTORY

In a ten year period between 359 and 369/4 (AR -64 to AR -54), King Axilar Rennarë of Ralas sailed all the way around the continent of Avokhar, stopping at all of the Seven Cities of Brass along the Bronze Coast, befriending the Eloysians who dwelt there. The seven visits were recorded in his journal, and tell of the wonders of Eloysian culture and magic Axilar encountered on his journey, and the deep friendships he made with the various rulers of the seven city-states. His first stop on the Bronze coast was to visit Ona Miertay, and he was amazed at the size and prosperity of the great city. He was soon welcomed by its current Ruler; Caliph Ikraam. Soon, the two rulers became great friends and a treaty was signed with mutually beneficial terms for trade between the two nations. Because of this positive experience, King Axilar was encouraged to sail further north along the coast and visit the other six city-states, and he did so.

When the Kingdom of Eloysia began growing in power and influence, its kings began to demand tribute from the Seven Cities of Brass. After the death of King Tilvanos, the various rulers of the seven cities refused to pay these tributes, and openly defied Queen Lorica. Once her son Al'Dur assumed the Jade Throne and declared himself Emperor, everything changed. He began a brilliant series of military campaigns to defeat the seven cities; appropriately named the Seven Glorious Conquests. The City-State of Ona Miertay was the target of Al'Dur's seventh and final campaign. The Eloysian armies invaded its territory in the year AR 36 and the City-State was soon defeated and captured in the year AR 38. Ona Miertay fell more easily than the other cities because most of its best soldiers had been slain or captured earlier, defending the city of Vhal Quaaros. For nearly two millennia afterward, the city was subject to imperial rule from Hamanids appointed in Sanjakar, and only became fully independent again when the empire collapsed in AR 2079.
